Activity: Truthful Reflection [*3]
Truthful self-reflection is a vital part of personal growth. We must learn to be honest about our beliefs and biases and cultivate a deeper understanding and appreciation of difference. It requires us to reflect on our own perspective, engrained attitudes and approaches to life.Ask yourself the following questions.- How do I view people who are different from myself?
- How do I feel/react when I witness homophobia or transphobia?
- How do I feel when I have a homophobic/transphobic thought or reaction?
When you reflect on your feelings and reactions to these questions, take time to try and understand them. Why did you feel that way? What was it that made you react like that? You may not have the answers right away, however, if you reflect often enough, you will see patterns and begin to learn deep lessons about yourself. To achieve a more inclusive mindset and attitude, it is essential to reflect upon personal biases and stereotypes, aiming to create a more inclusive mindset and attitude. -

Disclaimer[@=2_]
Note: The LGBTIQA+ acronym refers collectively to people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer/questioning, and/or asexual. These distinct but sometimes overlapping groupings are part, but not all, of what we mean when we speak about 'LGBTIQA+' communities or populations. We acknowledge that language and labels around sexuality and gender are continually evolving. We know the choice to use a particular word to describe your sexuality and/or how you identify is very personal. The words you use to describe yourself may not be included in this training module. That does not make them incorrect.
