The Learning Zone is where we can help you succeed in your studies.
Visit us and we will help you develop some skills and approaches that will really help you achieve your study goals.
You can find help from senior students in the UniMentor program. This is where you choose your own mentor from the list of trained volunteers. This is a great way to connect with students who have been successful in their studies recently. They are ready and happy to share their study tips with you. Or come and find out about the Study Buddi program where you can drop in and ask for support anytime they’re open.
Are you wondering if you are on track with your assessments? You can submit assignments for feedback or make an appointment with one of our academic staff called Learning Coaches. Our learning coaches can help you develop some really important skills and approaches to learning.
If you can’t come in person, that is not a problem. We also have live and recorded workshops listed on our webpage for easy access.
You can find ‘How To’ videos for all types of skills and approaches that will help you in your studies. These include things like academic numeracy and writing tips, like how to reference. You will also find guides on how to use really important academic tools such as Grammarly. The link to all of these services is below.

I totally remember what it was like starting out at uni. I remember especially being worried about how much you need to know about the technical and computer part of your studies. I had heard that these days everything needs to be submitted online. But there is no need to be worried. Southern Cross University has so many different forms of support that will help with your IT needs.
Many of the questions about learning technology that you might have now, have been asked before by other students. So, we have made some helpful clips answering common questions to guide you. These clips are always there for you in case you want to go back to them later in your studies. They include: How to log on to MySCU, how to connect to WIFI, how to print, and the really importantly how to get IT help? The link is included below.
The IT team are also there for you. They are really helpful and can answer questions no matter what sort of computer you have. They will help you find a solution and help you in your learning. Life at university is not all about assignments, classes and libraries. Join your university community and participate in Uni Living. Uni Living aims at making sure that all students are connected and belong to the SCU community. Uni Living adds a vibrant social engagement to studying. For students close to campus, if you are keen to stay fit and healthy there are social sports, learn to surf programs and competitive sports competitions available. There are also a range of clubs and teams just waiting for you to sign up. The UniLife team can help get you on the right track.

Are you feeling homesick, or looking for some support to manage study pressures? Do you need some help to manage stress or anxiety? Here at Southern Cross we have a free and confidential Counselling service to assist you with these struggles. All students can contact our team to arrange an appointment, or have a chat to find out more.
Do you need spiritual support to assist you with life challenges you may be experiencing? Our Chaplaincy team provide confidential support one on one or for groups of students. It does not matter if you identify with a religious community or not.
Sometimes students have money issues. If you are, you can apply for a small interest free loan.
You may need adjustments to assist you in your studies or have an equity matter that you want to discuss. Our Student Equity and Inclusion team are here to support you. Come and be involved in our various events celebrating diversity and inclusivity, such as Fusion Festival, the LGBTQI+ ALLY Network and many more.
